When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence. ~Ansel Adams
I like to document the little things in life- everyday moments.
The simple ones, the unimportant ones.
My peace of mind, photography is my outlet.
I read several books at once. I like buffets. I like variety- which I think reflects in my work. The world around me is amazing and there's so many opportunities to capture beautiful images. I'm happiest outdoors- fishing, hiking, sitting on the shore of a lake or just watching a fire burn. I'm not afraid to experiment with my ideas and bring them to life.
My name is Misty Blankenship Valenta. I am a Mid-Western native, born in 1978 to the flat lands of Southwestern Michigan. Currently I live in the rolling mountains of Orange County, NY, where I moved to in 2000. I am married to the most amazing man I have ever laid eyes on, I value our marriage and our future together, more than anything.
Photography has been my restless passion since 2001. For me, it is more of a hobby than I make it a job.
I like to take it beyond traditional rules and limits. Most times, my photos have an unrealistic color quality to them, or they appear a bit contrasty or even blown out, but I assure you that is my intent. Don’t get me wrong, I am able to do regular imaging, I just enjoy experimenting with my photos. As with any art, photography has no restrictions, and I completely enjoy exploring my options.
Moody, serious, playful; those are just a few words that have been used to describe my work. My objective is to create somewhat of a story using the surrounding ambience, instead of just snapping a picture and calling it a portrait.
This is what I specialize in, so it is very important that my clients communicate with me before a session as to what type of work they are looking for. So please, check out my gallery to get an idea of what I do.
I also specialize in outdoor location shooting. Translation: I love to shoot outdoors with natural surroundings and lighting. I feel it opens the door to creating a more dramatic and intimate atmosphere. (And making it easier to create that natural ambience I was talking about.) I also find it easier for my clients to relax and have fun. If you need any recommendations for places to shoot, I have many.
I am not afraid of getting my feet wet, or standing on top of a mountain in a blizzard, if it means I’m able to create that perfect impression! So if you have ideas, I want to hear them! (So long as my camera doesn't get ruined.)
