Where Have I Been?

July 16, 2014  •  Leave a Comment

Wow, it has been a really long time since I have even touched this site. Since giving birth to my daughter in January of last year, you can only imagine that I haven't had much time on my hands.
I do plan on keeping this site open, however I can not promise you that you will see anything new in it, any time soon.
I update my facebook page often- so you can always hop over there and like it. Just search for Misty Blankenship Photography & Art to see what I've been doing since 2013. I have branched out in many directions from photography. Currently, I am trying to get together many handmade pieces of reclaimed wooden art to sell at shows. I am hoping my first show will be in October.

So much news, but so little time. I hope everyone is doing well- and if you still visit this site then GOD BLESS YOU!

JANUARY 7, 2012

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a safe entry, ha! And I hope that this year brings each and every one of you the best!
I do want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your support last year, and all the previous years. It really does mean a lot to me. I'm lucky to have a fanbase out there :)

I have been busy lately with bringing my work outside of the internet realm. I've contacted/been contacted by a few galleries/authors/magazines in regards to participating in submitting work. I'm excited!! I have also had several promo merchandise/materials made up, so that will be going out shortly. I've had a lot of time lately to get these things together, thanks to all the Holidays.
I think 2012 is going to be the year and I'm ready for it!!

Unfortunately I have not been able to re-release The Notebook Diaries- A Memoir. The book is ready to go, but I have to wait out a few things before I'm able to put it back out there.

Lastly- I want to encourage everyone to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go visit my facebook page. If you are a returning fan and you check this site often for update, you will not find any of the latest work. I do update my facebook more regularly- so check that out first!

NOVEMBER 1, 2011

A very few of you may already know that I had self published a book back in 2005. The Notebook Diaries- A Photo/Journal Memoir. The book is a collection of poems that I had written over a period of a decade- they are very personal and were always kept very private.

This was a project that started out being something only for myself- My intentions were never to release this book out to the public. However, I was convinced by someone close to me at the time that I should allow it to be made available to everyone- so for a brief period, I had made that decision.

Though after realizing that the book wasn't entirely ready for release, I retired it. There were several issues that needed to be resolved before anyone's eyes had the chance to see it.
By the time I had retired the book- I once again stood my ground on not wanting these poems to be made public to anyone.

Six years later I have decided to revise the book and re-release it. This has been a decision in the making for the past several months. There's been a lot of work into revising it already, but finally I have just about come to the end, and the book "The Notebook Diaries- A Memoir" will be made available- with changes- A final product of what this book should have been in the first place. I'm hoping to have this all together and avail for purchase by the new year.

A little about this book, for wondering minds: I've been into writing poetry for as long as I can remember- writing has always been an outlet for me. It was my escape from my not-so-pleasant surroundings as a teenager. Getting lost in my own mind was something I did often. These poems were my way of coping, trying to keep the negative influences of the outside world far away from me. They're harsh, they're honest and they're me, a thousand times over. Allowing anyone to see these is like opening up my personal diaries and showing them to strangers. These are my diaries, they just happen to be disguised as poems.

So- hopefully some of you will be looking forward to this when it's time for the re-release!

OCTOBER 21, 2011

Well as you can see, the Alice shoot is done and over with. All that planning and anticipation is now over with. *whew* I must say, it was a bit stressful trying to pull that one off.
I hope you enjoy the photos! There will be more posting soon. Right now though you can follow the link that's posted on the right side of the Alice album to my facebook photography page where you can see more images posted. Ok, ok! you can also visit https://www.facebook.com/misty.blankenship.photography if you don't want to try and find the link here on my Zen.
Also don't forget to check out the behind the scenes images of the makeup application process! I was in extreme awe of Kelly's awesome talent, watching her do her magic on both the girls.
It was definitely an experience I will never forget! So whatcha doin! Go check out the images!!

OCTOBER 12, 2011

First off, most important- A friend was so kind to recommend my page for Shutterbug Magazine's "Web Profiles" column in the November issue! My copy came in the mail last week, and there I was! My own little space for the world to see. Check out the magazine, and I would highly recommend anyone who is into photography to get a subscription.

Added a GUESTBOOK! So go leave me a nice message! Also rearranged some albums in a drop down format, so hopefully it's easier to navigate the site now. Go play around with those buttons and get familiar with the new layout.

I'll be adding some new albums soon. Did a very sweet shoot last weekend that turned out amazing! Those pics will be getting their own gallery soon (as well as rearranging the previous sessions in their own albums.) Next week is my biggest project that I will see come alive. I haven't released any details yet, and I don't think I will be- so you gotta come back around to see what I'm talkin' 'bout! It's definitely a great shoot just in time for Halloween! (ps, I've collaborated with a very talented make-up artist on this one.)

AUGUST 31, 2011

Added A Love Affair With Words to Zenfolio! A page dedicated to my poems and writings- so stop in and scroll through. I updated quite a bit to kick off the page. Hope you enjoy!

JUNE 05, 2011

Red Riding shoot was completed a couple weeks ago, and photos are up! If you follow me on my Facebook Page, then you already know. Other than that, just keeping busy with my personal life. Hope all is well in your world!

APRIL 14, 2011

It's been so long since I've updated here! So sorry! I opened a facebook photography page- if you want to head over there, and click "like" (if you're a facebooker, that is.)
If not, then my blogger is still (sorta) updated on a regular basis.

I'll be starting a shoot soon, I'm very excited about it, and so is my model. It's going to be Little Red Riding Hood themed, and it will take place SOON! So keep checking back!
Before that happens, I'll be on the road doing some traveling within the next couple weeks.... and trying to cram a little house redecorating/painting in there probably as well. I have set myself aside some time to get things all in order for my Zenfolio updates though.

The warmer weather is coming up, which is oh so inspiring and I've been keeping busy!

Take care,

FEB 23, 2011

I'm starting a new project, Project Horror. If you read the quick description on the left panel in the Project Horror album, you'll get an idea of what I'm looking to do!
If you are interested, and you live in the surrounding area, then contact me! I would love to work with many different types of people. You don't have to be a film star beauty. All shapes, sizes, styles are welcome!
All I need is to grab a few headshots of you, and I'm done!
If you'd like to incorporate something in with the image, say you are a huge hockey fan... then grab your stick and throw on your jersey.
Do you have some awesome ink you'd like to show off? How about getting dressed up in your old prom or wedding dress? Have a newborn? The lil nugget could be peacefully sound asleep in your arms, and your mouth is wide open- going in for a bite!

You get the idea!

This is a non paid project, but I will certainly give you copies of the images when the project is finished!
So don't be shy! If you live anywhere near Orange County, NY and you'd like to participate- just email me misty.valenta@gmail.com

Other news?
Another project I will be starting soon is underway. Right now I'm collecting my materials to make it happen. Since I do not have anything but a list of things I need to begin this particular project, I don't want to spill the beans.
But I promise, it will be an interesting one. And probably one that will take the most patience. (A little hint: It has to do with film format.)
This project I'm anticipating getting done some time by the end of summer.

So, with that and the shoots in between, I'm excited to bring you new material this year. It's definitely going to be a lot different than what's been updated so far.
Just keep checking back!
